New Little Projects

What was I thinking???  I measured the top of my little milk stool at 6 1/2" diameter.  My goal was to make a little hooked cover for the stool.  I had just painted the stool off-white (covering black paint) and had distressed the finish a little so that it didn't look too "perfect."

I then drew up my pattern on linen and hooked it in just a short while...pretty small and pretty simple, right?  Wrong!  Somehow when I measured the pattern I didn't make it quite 6 1/2".  Did I wear my glasses when I measured?  I don't remember:0)

I could have corrected this error by laying the hooked mat on top of the stool BEFORE completely finishing it..........but I didn't.   So here I am with a 6 1/8" mat for a 6 1/2" stool.  aaaarrrgggghhhh!

There is nothing to be done now except to leave it as it is....and learn my lesson.  Measure twice and test the project BEFORE completing it!

The scissors holder on the left is my mother's.  A friend made it for her quite a few years ago.  Mom expressed a desire to make one herself, so I purchased the materials to make the plastic canvas "shoe" for her.  I thought the project might be a little hard for her, but we wanted to see if she could enjoy working on a project.  As it turned out when it came right down to actually starting it, she had no idea what to do, so I inherited the task.  Trying to trace the new shoe from the finished one was a major pain in the neck.  I drew, I counted, I traced, I cut, I mis-cut...sigh.  It took forever.  The shoe has a back, a front, and the over-flap on the front.  It was no small task. Whew!

To make a long story short, I finally finished the pink version this past week.  It is not perfect, but at least I persevered and finished it!  I'm not a fan of the ruffle, so I didn't make one.  I used some vintage shank buttons to give the impression of old shoe buttons...not too bad.

Hope you have a great weekend!
Hugs, Linda

  1. Hi, Linda,
I think your hooked stool cover is perfect! I think it needs to have a little of the stool showing, that is how I make mine.

  4. Can't tell if the edge is finished, but you could try a crocheted binding. It adds about 1/2 in to the edge. Alta

  5. Some of my projects have turned out smaller after they were hooked depending on which backing is used. I'm guessing that is what happened to your cute little milk stool. I don't think it's worth fretting over though - looks great to me!

  6. Thank you all for your kind comments...I have decided after living with it for two days that it doesn't look that bad. Sine it is finished, I can't change it anyway...I do like the colors I used!
