Polly Minnick Rug Finished!
Well, technically it is all "hooked" but I still have to hem it! This is a free pattern that I found in the Winter 2012 issue of "Primitive Quilts and Projects", and it is a Polly Minnick design called "Stoneware Horse." Hers is 30" x 50" and is hooked in blues and browns. My version is 17 1/4" x 11". It is hooked on rug warp which sometimes gives me fits. I hook very tightly...I have tried and tried not to "pack" my loops, but it is an illness....I can't stop! I love the feel of rug warp and the weight it gives to the rugs, but when you pack your loops it is hard to keep it from stretching the shape a bit. I think it will be fine, but I would love to do this rug on linen and in more muted colors...I may just do that!
Anyway, I love the way it turned out.
Have a great week!
Hugs, Linda

This rug looks SO great Linda! I hooked a large horse rug a few years ago, but I might have to do another after seeing yours. Isn't that the greatest magazine?
ReplyDeleteGreat rug I love your colors. I have never tried rug warp I am a packer myself and I am trying to change my ways.

Linda ~
ReplyDeleteLove the rug. I'll have to dig out my magazine and bookmark that pattern.
I've never hooked on rug warp. I've just always hooked on linen except for one small project on monk's cloth which I hated. I'm not a packer so I guess I am fortunate I don't have that habit to try to break.
Hugs :)

Lauren, Are you going to the Wool Keepers Hook In in Sept.?
ReplyDeleteIt turned out great!! Love your colors!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Alice!
ReplyDeleteI don't normally get that publication. However, a friend who knows I have a soft spot for Polly's pattern and horses alerted me to that issue. After trying several local stores, I ordered it from the magazine publishers. Now to the fun part of transferring it to linen. Ugh!!
ReplyDeleteLove your color choices. I owned 2 gray horses in the past and have tried to hook them. You did a great job.

Thank you, Trisha! Pattern transfer is the only part of rug hooking I don't like :-) I would love to see your rug when you finish it.
