Rug on My Frame and More Hook-In Pictures

I know I haven't made lots of progress, but I wanted to show the rug so far.  This is the Posy Pony pattern that I purchased a year ago from Pine Island Primitives.  I'm excited to see some of the background beginning to fill in.  This rug is 40" x 50" so it is going to take a good while for me to finish...I'm not the fastest rug hooker to say the least.  Below is the finished one from Sally Kallin:

The Bishop Hill Hook-In is always fun...everyone gets a door prize (or two!).  Here is this year's gift to all who attended.  It is an adorable rug hooker pin which was hand made by Vicki Hardcastle of Arkansas Rug Hooking.

Here are some more pictures of rugs at the hook-in:  Lots and lots of gorgeous wool!

These are the final pictures from the Hook-In, and I hope you enjoyed seeing them.  Wool Club is Monday night, so I hope to get pictures of more projects with wool.  Have a great weekend!

Hugs, Linda

  1. I am very interested in this art but am not sure of how it works, do you need to put fabric in all the holes in the canvas? or just fill in a certain area? so sorry am I asking a dumb question or do I need to take a class on this?
Thank-you for sharing your pictures they are lovely.

  2. Catherine, It is possible to learn rug hooking on your own, but I strongly urge you to seek out a teacher and get help. I know it will be a much better beginning for you. A teacher can give you advice on frames, cutters, wool and patterns as well as show you techniques that will save you so much time in the learning process.

Generally, one pulls wool loops through every second hole in the rug backing, depending on the backing and the thickness of the wool strips you use. Is there a group of rug hookers near you? Rug Hooking Magazine can be a great source of information about teachers and classes which may be available in your area. Please don't hesitate to email me if you have more questions...I will be happy to help if I can.

    Hugs, Linda

  3. Hey Linda - Your horse rug is going to be lovely when you complete it! All those different borders make it so interesting to look at! Thanks for all the pictures from your hook-in - looks like there were lots of goodies!
